In my sector of the church, and perhaps in yours, we emphasise the grace of God a lot, and that’s right and proper. But I worry that sometimes we emphasise it so much that we forget that God really likes it when we obey him. Let’s meditate today on Psalm 112 verse one. Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments.

Now, are you one of those, my brother, my sister, who greatly delights in the commandments of God? What does that mean? We learn from his word what he wants from us, and we also learn from the working the Holy Spirit through us who guides us and directs us.

So are we then seeing what God wants of us and going, that’s great. That’s really what I want. That’s what I want to do. Are we delighting in his commands? What does it take for our heart to be in that state where what we really want is what God wants?
