I don’t know if we can begin to understand the level and the depth of humiliation that Jesus Christ endured. And yet God as he does with so many things reversed this humiliation as we see in Philippians chapter two, verse nine. Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name.

So we have the supreme creator of the universe, Jesus Christ, through whom everything was created, he is brought down low. He’s not just brought down low to the level of our earth. He’s not just brought down low to the level of having to inhabit a human body.

No, he’s brought down low to the most wicked, cruel, and demeaning torture that human beings could conceive of at the time. He was punished, he was flogged. He was spat on. He was abused. He was insulted. He was offended beyond anybody of his time, and then he was crucified.

And because Jesus was willing to do all of that, which is incomprehensible to us, God raises him up and he places him at his right hand at the throne. The name of Jesus is higher than any other name. This means that his title surpasses every other title.

All authority has been given to him. That means all kings, all emperors, all prime ministers, all presidents, they are beneath Jesus Christ. He is highly exalted. He is the one we must worship and adore because he is just better and greater and wiser, and more loving, and more generous and kinder, and nobler than any of us will ever be.

He is highly exalted. His name is above all names. The man who is God. Jesus Christ. We worship him.
