You know, some of the things that we find in the Bible seem like common sense, and that shouldn’t surprise us because God is a God of sense. Let’s meditate today on Proverbs chapter 21, verse 21. Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness and honour.

The writer of the proverb says, if you go after this, this is what you’ll find. If you are pursuing righteousness. If you are attempting to align your life with the word of God and with his moral standards, then that’s what you’re going to find. Your life will align with the moral standards of God. He will lead you on into righteousness.

And we’re also encouraged to pursue kindness. Are we kind to those around us despite how they treat us, despite our circumstances and theirs? Are we able to be kind? If we can be kind and we can be righteous in all our actions, then honour is one of the results. We will be honoured by other people. They’ll not necessarily say these things to our face, but behind our back they’ll be saying nice things about us.

But more importantly than that, we are honoured in heaven. God is looking for good and faithful servants. Will we operate in the way he wants us to as his loving, obedient children? Because finding honour from God, that is the best thing we could possibly have.

Lord, I ask that you help us in our pursuit of righteousness and kindness. We need the work of your Holy Spirit to conform us more into the likeness of your Son who was righteous and kind. We just want to serve you and to do your will, our God and our Father.

Amen.
