Did you know that God can see right through us? That’s one of the things that you get when you are omniscient. Matthew, chapter seven, verse 21. Jesus says this, ‘Not everyone who says to me “Lord, Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father, who is in heaven.’
Jesus is speaking to all of us, especially those who like the Pharisees are putting on these airs and graces, this outward appearance of righteousness, who are saying God is our Father, but it’s not truly reflected in their behaviour or their character. They are oppressive towards others. They harbour secret and hidden sins.
Jesus says, look, it’s easy folks. Walk in obedience to my Father. And that’s what will happen naturally when we turn our lives over to Christ. When we say, I’m putting down my will and I’m seeking your will.
This is the path to heaven. This is the way to righteousness.
This is not saying that the way to heaven is through good works. This is saying that when we’re saved, when we’ve honestly repented, this is the natural thing that will happen to us. We will be doing the will of the Father in truth, and we will enter the kingdom of heaven.
