Do you ever experience doubt, doubt about your faith my friends? I do. I hope that’s not too shocking! And therefore I need to take heed of this warning in Hebrews chapter three verse 12. Take care, brothers, lest there being any of you an evil unbelieving, heart leading you to fall away from the living God.
We must ask God to transform our hearts. Our hearts are by nature inclined towards evil because of the Fall. And this leads us away from God. This leads us into sin. This leads us to be the reason why Jesus was crucified and punished instead of us. And the writer of Hebrews says, we wanna be careful of this.
We can’t just say, I’m saved. And that’s an end of it. No, we are to be on our guard. This walk of faith is a walk. We don’t just become converted and stop walking. It’s a race. It’s a race to the end, to eternity.
And I’m not saying by this that we are in any danger of losing our salvation. No, the salvation secured by Christ is far too secure for that!
But do we want to live with God or away from him? The writer of Hebrews suggests that living with God is the best thing for us. So we should consider ourselves with sober judgment, like Paul says, ask God to test us, and make sure that we are in partnership with the Holy Spirit working within us, transforming us through the growth of his Fruit, so that we no longer have an evil or unbelieving heart.
We ask God, grow our faith. Forgive our doubt. We put our trust in you, the living God.
