Doing the right thing can be a hard slog sometimes, can’t it? Take heart. Proverbs 11, verse 25. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.

Proverbs here talks about a virtuous kind of circle, doesn’t it? We give out, and we receive. This is a promise from God and his promises can be completely relied upon. He has set this principle into his universe that when we give out, when we bless others, when we lay our lives down for others, we ultimately are rewarded.

We know that God is a just God, don’t we? So this kind of thing should make complete sense to us. Except sometimes it feels like we’re trying and we’re trying and we’re trying and nobody ever notices. And why are my good deeds never seen? Why don’t I get rewarded? Why does nobody ever thank me?

Well, we have to check those kind of motives, don’t we? What is the reason for us giving? It can’t be so that we will be rewarded. This is a promise that reassures us, but it’s not our end game.

We give out because we have received so much, because God has abundantly blessed us, because he’s given us eternal life and salvation and out of that abundance, we bring blessing to others.

So we’ve received, and we give, and we receive again. God is just so generous to us. He’s that generous to us. So we must be generous to others with our time, with our resources, and with our love.

Thank you, Father, for the promise in your word that when we bless others, we ourselves are blessed. But God, you’ve already blessed us so much, and we thank you for that. You are a caring and loving God. Amen.
