Let’s meditate now on Psalm 139, verse 23. Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts.

If we’re going to meditate on this verse, I think we have to mean it. I think we have to pray it. I think we have to ask God to search us. And we have to be careful, because this places us under God’s microscope.

If we say this and mean it, He really is going to search and examine us. He’s going to find if there’s any fault inside us, if there’s any area of our life that is not yet submitted to Him that needs to change. And of course, our lives, our hearts are full of these things.

When we ask God to try us, to examine our thoughts, our cares, our worries, We are laying this all out before him, saying, God, not my way anymore, but yours.

And this is a thing that we do at the moment of conversion. We turn from our previous sinful ways and we turn towards God. And we turn towards Christ’s example. But yet this is a daily exercise. This is an hour by hour submission. This is a minute by minute decision to say, God, this heart of mine, contains evil and sin. Even though I am a child of God, I still fall in sin. So search me, God, put your spotlight on those areas of my life that need to change and through your Holy Spirit work in me today as every day, please.

We say, God, look at us, examine us and please change us. Take away the dirt and give us your cleanliness, burn away the imperfections. That’s hard and painful sometimes, but my goodness, it’s worth it.

So perhaps pray this prayer today and continue meditating on this verse, which you will find in the description below this video. Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts.
