In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he says this in the first chapter, verse 27: Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.

Paul is pleading with the Christians in Philippi to stand together and to let their lives be of good repute so that he can hear that they are pulling together in the direction of the kingdom of God. How do we make our lives worthy of the gospel of Christ?

Well, the gospel of Christ. is about love and sacrifice and forgiveness and grace, unmerited favor. So all of these components must be part of our lives. Living graciously, being generous and kind to everyone. If our lives are worthy of the gospel of Christ, then that will be talked about. Our neighbours, our communities will hear of it.

And how do we stand firm in one spirit? If we have unity in the faith, if we all are saying that Jesus is our Lord, we can strengthen one another. So together, let’s advance the Kingdom of God.

Lord, please help us in your church to be united, united in aim, united in the pursuit of the gospel, united in mission to the world, to the communities we live in, so that your name may be glorified. Amen.
