Do you ever feel like you’ve reached the end of your strength, the end of yourself? Psalm 73, verse 26 says, My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

The Psalmist fully identifies with what we feel. Our flesh, our own strength, our ability, our will, our self control. We may reach the end of this. Our heart, our emotions may be devastated and reduced to rock bottom, so that there is nothing more that we feel we can do. We can’t put one more foot forward.

And yet, God is the strength of our heart. God is the fire in our bones. God is the breath in our lungs, the light in our minds. And he is our portion. He’s our inheritance. He’s what we get. Forever.

So when we feel like we’ve run out of life, we’ve run out of resources, we’ve run out of our own ability to do anything else, we must turn our eyes back to God and remind ourselves that He is the strength of our heart and He is our portion forever. It is Him that we inherit. It is for Him that we run this race of life.

God, we take strength in you. We thank you, Lord, that we don’t have to be strong, because you are strong enough for all of us. Amen.
