When I was a child my parents encouraged me to put on the armor of God. This is the armor that Paul is talking of in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 11. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

What is it that he gives us in the way of armor? We have truth on our side. We have righteousness, the righteousness of Christ that means that we are in the right because of what Jesus did.

We have peace that we take with us wherever we go. Have you ever asked God to bring peace to the house that you live in?

We have faith. Faith to know that God ultimately is in control and all will be well in the end.

We have salvation. We are secure because of our salvation. There is absolutely nothing that the world, our own flesh, or the devil can do to take our salvation away.

And we have the sword, which is the Word of God. The Word of God is powerful. The word of God helps us to have insight into how we live and into right and wrong, and into making correct judgements. And the word of God was the weapon that Jesus himself used against the devil when he came to tempt him.

So put on the whole armor of God. Take all these things, truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word. Make sure you are wearing all of that. Because God has given it to you, you are entitled to wear this armor, as am I. And wearing it, we can stand against the schemes of the devil.

Thank you, God, for equipping us in this way. Thank you that you do not wish us to be undefended, you do not wish us to be unprotected. God, you care for us and you have given us everything that we need for life and godliness. Amen.
