Today’s meditation from the book of James takes us from thanksgiving right into worship. James chapter 1 verse 17. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
And so we thank God for the good gifts that all come from Him. When I look at my marriage, the spectacular wife that God gave me all those years ago, I have to thank Him for that. I have to thank Him for my marriage.
When I walk out in the summer and feel the sunshine on my face and it feels good, I can thank God for that. I can recognize that all the good things that He’s put in my life are from Him.
I can also praise God in the times that don’t feel so good, knowing that He walks with us through pain and suffering, through the trials of life. For I know that He is a loving God who loves His children and takes care of them.
Why is it that good gifts come from God? It’s because He is good and He will never change. He is the same God eternal throughout and beyond time and He will always be good.
We worship God, not simply because He gives us good things, but really because He gives us Himself. He gave us Jesus, who is the ultimate good and perfect gift, who provided the good and perfect route to reconciliation with God, to salvation.
Ah, God, thank you so much for being you. Glorious, powerful, and so good, and so kind, and loving towards us, your children. Thank you that you never change and that we can always trust you. Amen.
