As I mentioned in yesterday’s meditation, my son is in end of life care, and we know that he doesn’t have long left, and we are turning to God in this trial. And Psalm 118, verse 8 tells us the same thing that we need to hear. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.

What do we do in times of trial? What do we do when we go through adversity? Where are we going to place our trust? Who’s going to protect us? Who is going to pull us through? When our feet hit the bottom, will we be standing on the Rock?

It is better to take refuge in the Lord. There is no safer place for a chick than under the wings of the mother hen. And this is what Jesus says of Jerusalem, doesn’t it? How I long to gather you to myself as a hen gathers her chicks.

We need to take refuge in the Lord because he is ultimately perfectly reliable. That is the testimony of me and my family. We know that God has always been with us through every situation. And we say we’re going to take refuge in the Lord.

Say that with me. I will take refuge in the Lord. I will not trust in man more than I trust in God.

It is great that God puts us in families and in friendships where people can strengthen us and encourage us. But even that is the grace of God to us. Let us take refuge in the Lord because He knows what’s best for us and He loves us eternally.

Thank you, God.
