Today’s meditation is Colossians 3 verse 2. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Obviously God doesn’t literally mean think about space rather than thinking about this planet. What he clearly does mean is dwell on the things that are eternal, the things that are of God, the things that have lasting value.
So what might that be for us today? We’re starting right now by thinking about the truth that God brings through his scripture. And then beyond that, we can dwell on God’s purposes for the day. Rather than simply seeing it as a list of things that we must do, how about thinking of it as part of His mission into this world, for you, for me, today.
We are a living witness to those around us. Let’s also set our minds on the future coming kingdom of God, which is increasing. His kingdom is here now. The reign of Jesus has begun. But with the second coming, with the return of Christ, that will be so much more intense and widespread and universal.
Let’s think about that. Let’s think about what the renewed heaven and earth might be like for us when we’re living in close contact with God. When finally we can see Him and know Him fully as we are fully known. This gives us inspiration and purpose.
Lord, please help us today to keep our eyes fixed on you. And our minds and our hearts dwelling fully on your purposes. Amen.
