Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Whatever we’re doing in all areas of life, including those where we think there may be a moral component, whatever we do, do it all to the glory of God.

And that is difficult for us because so often our motivation for doing all sorts of things isn’t the glory of God. It might be our own sense of achievement. It might be wanting to look good in the eyes of others. It might be some kind of semblance of fame or respect.

And all of these motivations, they’re understandable because we’re human. But Paul’s saying, make your first and highest priority the glory of God. And this is quite a different way of thinking about how we conduct our lives.

As I do my job, how am I engaging with that for the glory of God. If it means that God can be glorified in what I do, how does that affect the way that I do it?

When I achieve some kind of success in whatever I’m doing, I’m gonna recognise first and foremost that I can only do that or anything because God gave me the gifting, the time, the talents, the training, the learning, the knowledge, the skill. All of these things come from our Heavenly Father.

So we are just custodians of the things that He’s given us. And when we use our talents or our resources, we can do that for his glory. We can reflect the glory back to God and say, this was a good outcome. That’s because of you, God.

Really that applies to absolutely anything. That applies to how we do the housework. You know, can we clean our areas in a way that glorifies God, not being slovenly about it?

But also not punishing ourselves or driving ourselves too hard because God is glorified when we rest too. Whatever we do, work, rest, play, sleep, learning, we can do it all my friends, to the glory of God.
