Not everybody can sing. Not everybody has a voice, and yet we can all learn something by meditating on this verse from the master songwriter King David. Psalm chapter 40, verse three. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put that trust in the Lord.

For King David, singing, making music was one of the ways that he worshipped God. It was one of the ways that he expressed to those around him what his faith was and in whom he put his trust. And God is looking to do the same with us, my friends. He’s looking to put things into us that are expressed outwardly. In many cases that may actually be in the songs that we sing, because corporate worship is a way of glorifying God and reinforcing to one another these truths that we believe about God and that he is glorious and to be glorified.

And in all of these things, the things that God puts into us that we can then express, whether that be creatively through our work, through our daily living, any of those things, they are a witness to others. Many will see and fear, says David. Many people will see that we are different, that we are actually empowered by the living God.

And because of that some will be caused to put their trust in the Lord because of what he’s done in us. Isn’t that wonderful? So let us not live in fear, but let us rather take these things that God has given us, and in many cases they are songs, and use them and express them by whatever means he has made available to us. This is different for everybody.

And let’s lift up a song of praise in our hearts, at the very least, whether or not we have a voice, a song of praise to God. Because that will transform the way we live. It will transform the way we look, and God is glorified in that and many can be brought to understand who he is because of this.
