If there’s any verse in the Bible that’s guaranteed to cause friction, it’s this one, Leviticus 18 verse 22. You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
I don’t know where you sit on this particular verse. Many Christians want to explain it away. Scripture starts with the joining of a man and a woman . And then Jesus Christ is expressed as the Bridegroom of the church.
So this whole concept of maleness and femaleness being joined together is extremely important to God. It is a recurrent theme in scripture. He never talks positively about a man lying with a man or a woman lying with a woman.
And yet in our witness to the world, we are called to love and compassion. So if this verse is anything, it’s not a weapon. It’s not something that we beat people around the heads with.
