Are you led by the Holy Spirit, my friend? That’s something that we should ask ourselves as we meditate on today’s verse. Romans chapter eight, verse 14. For all who are led by the Spirit of God, are sons of God.

If we’re led by the Holy Spirit, if the Holy Spirit is directing us, then that is a sign that we’ve been adopted by God; we’re his children. How do we know if that’s true in our lives? Well, we have to see, I think, whether our lives measure up to what we see in scripture.

What does scripture say about those who are filled with the Holy Spirit of God? Well, we can consider the Fruit of the Holy Spirit that grows in us as the Holy Spirit works in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Are all of these aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit evident in our lives? If they are, then that might be a good indication we are being led by the Spirit of God.

Another indication might be whether or not we are walking in a similar way to the way Jesus walked. Are we giving good news? Are we helping the poor? Are we working in areas of healing and justice? Do we care about the plight of those who don’t yet know God or who have rejected him?

What fruit is visible in your life? We can ask our friends do you think I’m being led by the Holy Spirit? And if not, that should be reason for us to get on our knees before God and say, Lord, lead me because I want to be your child.

This is not to say that if you are not seeing the Fruit, that you are not saved. This is simply one way that Scripture helps us to look at our walk to see whether we ought to be doing something to change our lives with the help and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lord God, thank you that you do lead us. Thank you that you’ve given us the Holy Spirit and your word to help us be led. Thank you that you adopt us as your children. Lord, I ask that you help us all who are meditating on this verse to walk and be led by the Holy Spirit. Amen.
