The love that we have, the godly love, the agape love for those around us should be consistent, steadfast, always on. There should never be a moment when we are not loving those around us.
And this is nothing to do with feelings. This is to do with the attitude of our heart and the decisions that we’re making. This faithfulness should never be far from us.
The verse says, bind this around your neck, this steadfast love and faithfulness. Wear it like a necklace so that you never forget it, so that it’s never far from you. Write it on the tablet of your heart. Indelibly etch this into your very being. That’s what the heart means in this medieval literature. You should through and through be steadfastly loving and faithful.
