Let us not grow weary of doing good for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.

There are many reasons for doing good in this world. We shouldn’t be doing good because of how it makes us look, because that’s just self-righteousness, which is no righteousness at all. But Paul singles out a particular reason: that as we do good, there will eventually be a harvest in due season. Perhaps not when we’re looking for it, but ultimately there will be a harvest.

So as you plant a seed, you may get multiple fruits from that single seed. As we do a good work, there’s much fruit that comes from that good work. But it takes time and seasons to see that fruit emerge.

Paul says, don’t get weary of this. It’s very easy, isn’t it, to get tired of keeping on, keeping on. Particularly if we don’t get any thanks, and particularly if it feels like we’re not seeing any results.
