Let’s spend some time today, my friends, meditating on the way that God looks after us and cares for us by looking at Psalm 121 verse five, which says this: The Lord is your keeper. The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
Now, if we think about keepers, we might think of people who keep animals. What is it that a keeper does for an animal?
The keeper feeds and waters that animal. The keeper, looks after the welfare of the animal. A good keeper will make sure that that animal has a pleasant place to live in, a wonderful environment that will be nurturing. And so it is with God for us.
We may not always realise this, but God is keeping us. He is sustaining our lives. If God didn’t allow us to continue to exist. We would not exist.
Beyond that, he also feeds us. He feeds us with his word, which is food for our spirits. He feeds us by the working of the Holy Spirit within us, which causes fruit to grow in us: Fruit of the Spirit.
The Lord is our shade on our right hand. He protects us from the world, the flesh and the devil. Now, it may not always seem that way, but how many things has God defended us from that we weren’t aware of? If all the forces of darkness were pitted against us with no protection from God, would we survive?
The Lord is our shade on our right hand. He is protecting us. He is sustaining us. He is keeping us. God hasn’t forgotten about us. We may not understand why our circumstances are as they are, but he is keeping us. Be assured of that. He is preserving us so that one day we will be with him in glory.
My friends, the Lord God. Yahweh cares about you. He cares what happens in your life. He wants to love and protect you. He wants to nurture you. He wants to keep you. Not as an animal, not as a pet, but as a dear son or daughter.
He is a true father who cares for his children. He cares for us. Take comfort in this verse today.
