There is great encouragement in the word of God, and today’s passage is one of those that warms our hearts and lifts our heads. One Thessalonians chapter four, verse 14. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

So our faith largely starts not just with the death of Christ, but with his resurrection. It’s in his resurrection that we have hope.

Friends, we have plenty of reason for believing in the resurrection of Jesus. Not only in the witness in our own hearts and in our experience as Christians, but also in the fact that all the evidence points towards the gospels being accurate on this point.

If Jesus had not risen again, those disciples would not have endured what they did because they would’ve realised their entire faith was a joke. No, Jesus truly died and truly rose again. And he shows us in that resurrection what our destiny is to be.

Paul says, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. So because Jesus rose again, we have this chance to rise again too.

If the Lord doesn’t come back before we die, then this is our fate. We will fall asleep and then in Christ we will rise. We will see life again.

I don’t know how all the timing of that works out, my friends, but what we know for sure, we can know for sure we can accept and trust is that we will have life everlasting. This little bit of life that we’re having right now will be an infinitely tiny speck in comparison to all the life that we will have in eternity.

Do you see why this is so encouraging and worthwhile reading and meditating on? This is one of the reasons that we live day by day, in hope and in the knowledge that God cares for us.
