The Psalms are a constant source of reality and practical guidance for life. It’s not everything’s, oh, jolly, jolly. No, it’s real. Sometimes we are down, sometimes we are broken, and the Psalms has an answer for those times.
Psalm chapter 80, verse 19 is one example. It says: Restore us, oh Lord God of hosts. Let your face shine that we may be saved.
This is a prayer that we could pray ourselves in the depths of despair. Whatever the reason for that, whether it be a crisis in life or a great sin that we feel we’ve committed , we can call out to God and say, restore us. Place us back on the right path. Let us be in good relationship with you, God. You are the God of this universe. You are the God of angels. You are the God of humans. We come to you and we ask you to turn your face towards us so that the light of your glorious presence shines on us. Knowing that when this happens, we are saved.
And of course we know from what we see in the entirety of the Bible and in our lives as a testimony that God does this. He saves us. But he saves us through relationship. He wants us to call out to him. And he sent us Jesus to show us the way even to do that.
So whatever situation you may be in, my friend, this may be a cry of your heart. You can call out to God and ask him to restore you, knowing that he will. Ask him to pour his favour on you. Ask him to let his face shine. This is a symbol of God smiling and showing his glory on us and through us as he looks at us.
He loves us so much. He loves you so much, my friend. No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done . And when his face shines on you, as it does, when we repent and turn from our wicked ways, you will be saved. We are saved.
