The Bible reveals truths about us that we do well to pay attention to. Let’s meditate today on Matthew chapter 19, verses 25 to 26. When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man, this is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.”
So what is it that the disciples have been astonished by? It’s this saying that it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus is saying that this is a very difficult thing. Something makes it extraordinarily difficult for somebody who has a lot of stuff to enter the kingdom of heaven.
And what is the solution to that conundrum? What is the solution to the problem of a person hanging so tightly to things that they cannot pass through the narrow way? The answer is God. It’s possible because of God.
When Jesus says with God, all things are possible, he’s not saying that you are going to see ridiculous things happen on a daily basis. Because God is a God of order. He’s not a God of chaos.
But he is saying that even though God’s purposes, it doesn’t seem possible for them to be fulfilled, they will be. And this is how sinners like you and I can come into relationship with God.
These things don’t seem possible. How can we possibly even believe these things? But the Holy Spirit works on our hearts, leads us towards God, towards knowledge of Him, and we come to see that everything that Jesus said is true.
God’s purposes will be fulfilled. Even though the world can look dark and bleak, the light of the gospel of Christ is shining across this world and people are being saved.
And this will continue until the day of Jesus’ return. There will be a new heaven, a new earth. We will have new bodies and we will know our Creator face to face. Sounds impossible, but with God all things are possible.
