God is a God of growth and increase. He is a God of profit. Don’t believe me? Well, let’s meditate together on Isaiah chapter 48, verse 17. Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.”
So God has the right to define what is profit . God is the ruler of the universe. He made all of this and he says what is profitable for us. That doesn’t always mean then that he wants us to be wealthy.
But he is always teaching us. He is leading us. He is disciplining us in the excellent sense of that word. He is training us up into the likeness of his Son. So he leads us in the way that we should go.
How does he do this? He does it first through his Word. He does it through the Holy Spirit living in us, and he does it through all the saints who have gone before, who have left a legacy of learning. And through those who are equipped today to teach us in our churches, in our Bible studies.
God teaches us for a reason. He teaches us to profit. He teaches us because he wants there to be growth in our lives. He wants all sorts of growth. He wants other people to learn of him through you, through the way you live your life, and so that this faith that you have is then reproduced in others.
He wants us to raise up children, whether ours, biologically, or other people who also come to know God as their Saviour. He wants us to subdue this earth, to create good things in this environment that He’s made for us.
And He, our God, teaches us how to do this, by giving us right perspective on whose this universe is and on how we can conduct ourselves righteously.
Yes, God is looking for profit in your life and mine.
