Jeremiah chapter six, verse 16: Thus says the Lord, “Stand by the roads and look and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.'”
How strongly that speaks of the stubbornness of heart of those who will not follow what God’s saying despite the fact it’s for their good. God’s saying to his people, as he says today, to us, to our nations, “This is the best way for you. Look at all that I’ve written in this book, this Manual for Life, and see how it can help you to live. See how it can help you to be in an effective relationship with your Creator.” But we say we will not do it.
And yet God’s voice still comes to us. It still says, look at these tried and tested and true methods. Look at this way of living. Look at this way of understanding life, of relating to God and see how much good it will do you to follow my way and to glorify me.
