Sometimes the greatest and most profound wisdom is encapsulated in very simple words like today’s from Romans, chapter 14, verse eight. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that we are constantly safe in the hands of God. And so that whether our life is concluded soon or distantly, either way, we are his.

Paul himself knew that his time was drawing to an end. He knew that he was going to go to be with the Father, but that while he remained on this earth, he remained in God’s plans and could be used by God.

So either way, living to the Lord, looking to him for direction and purpose or meeting him in heaven, we’re equally blessed. Though, of course, our time with God in eternity will be so much more blessed.

We’ll be blessed on a different level to our experience here on earth. All sickness and death will pass away.

So my friends do not fear death and do not fear life. Either way, we can live and we can die to the Lord. We can live well and we can die well, by keeping our eyes fixed on our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
