Do you have pain and difficulty in your life, my friend? I get it. Watching my 19-year-old son die last year was one of the hardest and most traumatic experiences of my life to date. But the Apostle Paul gives us some insight that helps us to move through and beyond these times.

Let’s meditate today on Romans chapter eight, verse 18. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

I don’t think here that Paul is dismissive of what we’re going through. He himself was going through a great deal, beatings, torture, mocking, and rebuke. And yet he says all this that I’ve gone through, that’s nothing compared to what awaits us. He wants to show us the glorious perspective that he had when he saw the coming kingdom of Jesus in all its fullness.

The kingdom of God is here now today in us. But the full manifestation of that when Jesus returns in his glory to claim the church as his bride is going to be spectacular beyond anything we can imagine.

The sufferings that we go through today, will fade in time and into insignificance compared to what God now has for us, what is coming for us, what we will be experiencing when we join him. That glory is going to be revealed to us in a way it never has before.

Paul had a glimpse, and then when he was martyred and passed on, he saw it in its fullness. That’s what awaits us too, my friends.

So difficult, though they are, the present sufferings of today, we will be able to put them all aside and rest and bask in the glory and love and permanent fellowship of God. That’s what’s coming for us all, who love him. Stand firm then and keep your eyes on your Saviour.
