Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
David, the Psalmist here is inviting us to an experience, to an encounter, to something real and tangible. David isn’t just saying, take my word for it, that God is good. No. Find out for yourself. Follow him and see how he blesses you. See how he transforms you. See how he changes your life for the better.
He uses this poetic metaphor of tasting and seeing; taste some good food and see how appetising it is. He’s saying that about God. Partake of what God offers, and you will see, you will experience, your senses, will tell you that this is good.
And so he goes on to say the ones that take refuge in God, the ones that put their trust, their hope in him, the ones that turn to God for safety, they’re the ones that are blessed, they are made joyful, their experience of life is enhanced, is changed for the better.
This spiritual life isn’t about pie in the sky while you die. No taste and see right now that God is good.
And if you haven’t done that yet, I would encourage you to. Try it. Put your faith in Jesus Christ. I promise you, he will not let you down. You will taste and see that our Lord is good, and that when you take refuge in him, you will be blessed.
