Why do we read and listen to the word of God? One of the reasons is because it’s so powerful. Let’s meditate today on Hebrews chapter four, verse 12. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit of joints, and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
The word of God, the Bible, everything that God says to us is a potent force. It is a weapon. It’s the one weapon in the armor of God that we can wield against the enemy.
It shows us what is true and what is false, what is evil, and what is pure. And it reveals to us our own dark thoughts, our own evil intentions. It lays us bare before God.
The word of God does that. And in some ways it feels like this is damaging. We are being taken apart by the Word of God, but that is only so that the Great Potter our Lord God can mold us into a better shape, more like Jesus. And he does this significantly through His word, and through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you, God for your word. It is a powerful force in this world. Thank you that you have left us with this revelation of you, so that we can come to know you, to understand you and to learn how to operate well in this life. Amen.
