Hello my friend and welcome. Together you and I will offer up a meditative prayer for government to almighty God, our Father. You can enable subtitles if you would like to pray along with me or simply say “Amen”, or “I agree” as we proceed.
Lord God, Holy Spirit, Jesus my Saviour, I come before you now as your child and your servant. You are my King. You made heaven and earth. You made me. I come to you in submission and humbly ask that you hear my prayer today.
God, you know the state of my nation. You know the decisions that are made in public and behind closed doors. Some of those decisions honour you and some do not.
Father, you have placed leaders in position, kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers, and all must one day bow the knee to you. They rule only because you have delegated authority to humans. And all that they think, say, and do is seen by you God, who knows the inner workings of the heart.
Whether or not I always agree with my nation’s leaders Lord, I ask that you grant them wisdom to rule graciously and honourably. Leading a nation is a fearsome responsibility and who can hope to discharge this well, except with your help every step of the way.
I pray for the protection of our leaders and their families. For as long as you allow them this responsibility, God, may you uphold them and give them every opportunity to govern well in accordance with your moral law.
I know that to lead involves a double accountability to the nation and ultimately to you, the true King and leader of all. Please, Lord, encourage my nation’s leaders then to take seriously this charge. And draw them to walk humbly before you God, the only one who can guide them into profound wisdom and truth.
Please particularly grant our leaders wisdom, grace, and diplomacy in dealing with anyone who opposes or disagrees with them. May they act peacefully towards other nations and extend support to those in difficult circumstances.
I believe God, that you gave all humans the task of filling this earth, being fruitful and being good stewards of the resources you entrust to us. Please focus the minds of our leaders on this task so that all matters of state will be conducted in accordance with your plans and purposes.
God, there are many who serve this government in order to help and assist others. Please cause my leaders to treat these servants well, to ensure they are rewarded appropriately for their service and to promote the highest levels of ethical conduct for all public servants.
Lord, to the extent that wickedness fills the hearts of leaders of my nation, I ask that you rebuke them, God. May you ultimately remove from office any leader who refuses to accept your wisdom, and especially those whose decisions and actions inflict evil and injustice within this nation. Please God oppose any attempt to oppress the weak and the unprotected. You are a just and righteous God who cannot tolerate evil.
Almighty God, I know you have heard this prayer today. You are the wisest one and you are supremely trustworthy. As you work out your purposes, I bow the knee to you and accept your plans and your timing. God, please grant me patience and grace as I eagerly anticipate how you will move and are moving. Nothing is too difficult for you and you know best in all matters. Thank you for listening, and thank you for answering O God. Amen.
