Today’s meditation verse may leave us with more questions than answers, but still I think it’s worth meditating on. It’s Revelation, chapter three, verse 21. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne also as I conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

This is towards the end of the letter to the church at Laodicia, the one that was lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. And Jesus is saying to this church, I want passion from you. I want you to conquer. I want you to persevere with spiritual matters. And of course, God wants that of all of us because it’s for our benefit and it’s for His glory, and it’s for the sake of the kingdom of God.

The one who conquers. Conquers what? Are we conquering anything if we just follow Jesus? Well, I think we are. We are conquering the things that are pitted against us. This world does not want us to follow Jesus. This world does not want us to abide by God’s moral code. This world does not want us to worship the one true and living God.

And if we do that, if we’re conquering in that way, following Jesus, serving him, then this has a message for us about authority. Jesus is saying, I’m going to share some of my authority with you. I will grant to you to sit with me on my throne.

He is delegating to us some of the things that are within his remit: The spreading of the gospel, the casting out of demons, the pronouncing of healing, the bringing salvation to the lost.

I don’t fully understand how this operates. I really don’t. But this is in the word of God and it benefits us to inquire of it and ask the Spirit to lead us more into truth.

In this verse we see Jesus say that he conquered and sat down with his Father on his throne. We see the ascended Christ now in glory with the Father ruling and reigning as the eternal King. He wants us to be part of that kingdom with him, my friends.

Let us walk with him every day.
