This harsh world is so quick to make people feel unloved and ugly. So today we take great comfort as we meditate on Psalm 149 verse four. For the Lord takes pleasure in his people. He adorns the humble with salvation.

I don’t know if this is news to you, my friend, but when you are a child of God, he takes pleasure in you. He looks at you and he smiles. He loves to see you. He loves to think about you. Imagine that! Your creator, God loves having you in his mind.

The Lord takes pleasure in his people. That’s you.

He also adorns the humble with salvation. He beautifies us by putting salvation on us. He clothes us with his salvation bought by his Son. And that makes us more attractive so that uncleanliness of our guilt and sin is taken away and we are beautified before God.

You my saved friend are beautiful!

And we note here that those who are saved are those who are humble. We have to come to God with humility if we are to be saved because we are saying, I can’t do this, God, I can’t do it myself. I can’t make myself righteous. I bow the knee to you. I humiliate myself in order to take on what you are offering to me; that salvation.

And having done that, having humbled ourselves before God and received salvation, he just smiles. He’s delighted in us and he is glad when we want to spend time with him.

God, I don’t fully understand this. How could you be pleased by me? How could you be pleased by us? And yet you are. This is your work of grace towards us. Thank you for covering us with salvation and making us the unlovely, lovely to you and in your eyes. We praise you. Amen.
