This life of ours can be really hard, can’t it? And that’s why I think we need so much of the comfort that we find in the Bible. Like today’s verse, Psalm 94, verse 19: When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.
And as we meditate on this verse, we ask ourselves what is it that the Psalmist is talking about? So we know the first bit. When the cares of my heart are many. There are so many things in this world, in this life that can grind us down, leave us exhausted, sadden us, exhaust us, leave us traumatised. So many cares, we’ve got that bit.
But what about the consolations that cheer our souls? What are these consolations that the Psalmist is thinking about?
I think that we see in the Bible many things that God says to us that are intended for our comfort and even for our joy, our happiness, our pleasure.
