So God created man in his own image. In the image of God he created him, male and female he created them.
This is a beautiful verse. It’s an expression of God’s creativity, the pinnacle of his creation as he makes men and women in his image. And later at the end of this chapter, Genesis one, God says, of everything that he’s made, it’s very good.
So God is satisfied with this aspect of creation. There’s something of value that he sees in the maleness and femaleness of his creatures. This is a subject that for many is very confused and polarising. What does it mean to be male and female in the mind of God?
Because there is such confusion and debate and contention on this issue, it really benefits us to meditate on this verse, to lean into it, to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the mind and intention of God without any prejudices or preconceived ideas that we may be holding onto.
