Isaiah chapter 26, verse 3. You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

A lack of peace in our minds and in our hearts so often comes from dwelling on things that are uncertain or threatening or stressful. How do we avoid that stress? How do we find our peace in the face of a storm? Isaiah says, we have to make sure that we are thinking first and foremost of the things of God.

You know, when Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on the water towards his Saviour, he was doing fine as long as he looked at Jesus. It was when he looked at the waves, it was when he looked at the ridiculousness of the situation and thought, “This isn’t possible, how can I be standing on water?” that he sank.

Had he kept looking to his Saviour, had he kept his mind stayed on Christ, he would have remained in that inexplicable, peaceful situation where he could walk all the way to Jesus across liquid.
