What are we here for? What is our purpose? Well, I’m not gonna keep you in suspense today. Let’s meditate on Ephesians chapter two, verse 10. But we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
We are the craftsmanship of God. He very deliberately designed and created us. He created us to reflect his glory and he created us to do his work. Not just any old work, but good work.
He gives us good work to do. He gives us gifts and talents which are to be exercised on his behalf. And that doesn’t mean that we all have to do work for a church organisation all the time. No, there is dignity in all forms of work.
God has tasked us the human race with being fruitful and multiplying and subduing the earth, which we do in many ways, including creating buildings, including works of art that reflect his glory, including teaching people, including contributing to the growth and welfare of others. And God made sure before he created us, that we’d be up to that job.
He knew what he wanted us to do and he gave us the tools to do it. And so this is our purpose for all of us. And in doing this, in doing the things that God has created us to do, we are most satisfied and he is most glorified.
You, my friend, are the craftsmanship of God and you have been created to do good works. So seek his will, seek his purposes and walk in them. May his hand be on you as you do.
