In this airbrushed world where everything tells us we are supposed to be perfect and we so plainly can’t be, I take great comfort from the fact that God is perfect enough for all of us. In our series meditating on the character of God, today we look at Psalm 18, verse 30. This God: his way is perfect. The word of the Lord proves true. He’s a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

We need God to be perfect, don’t we? This universe has to make sense. It has to have a purpose. We have to have something greater than us. And we do in our God, and he is perfect in every single aspect.

As this Psalm tells us: he is completely truthful. Everything that he says comes to pass. We can rely 100% on this God. What he says he will do.

And he is a perfect shield. So we take refuge in him, we run to him. We bury ourselves in him as we accept Jesus. And he shields us from the eternal consequences of our sin and wrongdoing.

We can’t possibly be perfect no matter how hard we try. Just look at God, see his perfection and see how far we are away from that. This gives us cause to worship him. This gives us cause to relax too, because we know we can’t be perfect, but at least he is.

He is perfect enough for all of us and he sent his perfect son to do that difficult, impossible work so that our imperfection would not cause us to be extinguished from existence.

Lord God, I thank you that you are perfect, that you are so 100% reliable, that you are truthful, that we can rely and depend on you, and that you protect us. You protect us from the eternal consequences of sin.

God, we worship and adore you and ask you to forgive us our imperfection as we rest on our perfect Saviour. Amen.
