In the most recent two minute meditation, we focused on God’s generosity. Now we’re going to look at a tangential characteristic, which is his provision, his providence. This is God speaking to Job in Job chapter 38, verse 41. Who provides for the raven its prey when its young ones cry to God for help and wander about for lack of food?

Wow. That’s intense. It’s a rhetorical question of course. The answer is who provides that? God provides it. God has made provision for his creatures, even down to the birds, that they can provide food for their young.

We know from what we looked at last that God is extremely generous towards us, but now we know that he is the source. Everything that was created came from him. The energy from the sun that we now depend on to grow our food, to generate electricity that came from God.

Our bodies came from God. He set this universe in motion so that we would have bodies which we could then use to worship him.

He provides food. The very fact that photosynthesis is even a thing, that plants can grow, that we can eat them is all because of God’s provision for us.

And God in this verse notes that the young ones of the ravens are crying to God for help. Isn’t that beautiful poetry? The baby ravens say, we need food. And to whom are they expressing that need? They’re expressing that to God. They, the creatures know that God is their provision.

Are we so sure of that? If the baby ravens can cry out to God for help, so should we.

Thank you God, that you are so attentive to us, to our needs and to the needs of your creation. Thank you that you are the source of everything that is good and nourishing and that we need for life. Thank you, God, that you are concerned in our welfare and you are concerned in providing for that welfare. Amen.
