In our continuing miniseries, meditating on the characteristics of God, today we are meditating for two minutes on his generosity. 2 Peter chapter one, verse three. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.
The power of God has given us all these things, but what things? The things that relate to living and to being godly. So if we need to know anything at all about how to live and about how to live a godly life that pleases God, he’s already given us everything we need for that.
So how do we access it? Many ways, but one of them is through meditating. So doing this very thing is the way that we partake of God’s generosity to us in giving us all these things that we need to live and to be godly.
We can do this through observing his excellency in creation, in how he interacts with us. We can observe the working the Holy Spirit in us. We can see how he works in our fellow believers. And we can experience and know him in worship. In all of these things we are drawing on the generosity of God who is equipping us for life.
In this process of receiving his generosity through all of these things that we can do as Christians, we are moving towards his glory and excellence, and he is the most glorious being. He is the most excellent of all.
What does this tell us about the character and the generosity of God? It tells us that it’s basically unbounded towards us, his beloved creatures. See how God gives us the things that are most valuable and most important to him.
Thank you, God, for your abundant generosity towards us. Thank you that you show this kindness to us, and thank you that you are drawing us into you into closer conformity to the character of Christ.
You are so good to us, Lord, and we thank you. Amen.
