Today we look at one of the most encouraging verses perhaps in the entire Bible for us Christians. Romans chapter eight verse one. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
No condemnation. So that means not from our churches, not from each other, and not from ourselves. There is no condemnation that can fall on us, that can stick.
Why? Because we’re in Christ Jesus. Because we’ve accepted him. Because we’re saying, we’re going your way, we’ve repented of our sins, and we accept the benefit of your sacrifice, Jesus, that pays for all of that so that we stand without condemnation before God, who is our only true Judge.
No matter what happens in this life, once we’ve done that thing, accepting Jesus truly and sincerely as our Saviour and repenting of our sin, condemnation is irrelevant. No matter, literally, no matter what we may have done or what we may yet be to do, we are not condemned for that.
The power of Jesus’s sacrifice is so complete that when we finally stand before God as our judge, he will say, guilty, but free. There is no condemnation for you. The penalty is paid.
And that means that right now in this life, when we feel guilty or condemned, we need to turn away from those feelings, turn back to Jesus and say, I accept what you’ve done for me. I know that I am not condemned. These thoughts, these feelings, I rebuke them because the condemnation can only come from the mouth of the Accuser, our enemy, and he is just wrong. He is defeated. There is no condemnation for us while we are in Christ Jesus.
Thank you God for this incredible truth, that though we deserve punishment, there is no punishment. There is no guilt for us. It’s all taken away by the sacrifice of your beloved son Jesus. We thank you. Amen.
