Have you ever looked at something and delighted in it and thought on it so much that you’ve thought you’ve got to have it? Whether that be clothes, a house, a car, the latest gadget? Well today in the word of God, we have something far better than any of those things for us to long for with all our hearts.

Matthew 13, verse 44. "The Kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."

Jesus was talking about this wonderful thing, the kingdom of God. What is the kingdom of God about? It is the increasing rule and reign of our heavenly Father, which is good for all people. This is a kingdom in which God is praised, worshiped, and which we are free to receive his grace and glory without any of the effects of sin.

This is the greatest treasure we can ever discover. And so Jesus makes the point that when someone finds out about something that good, that could be theirs, they get rid of everything else in order to have it.

The man went and sold everything that he had. He laid aside all of his goods, his worldly goods and attachments, and went for the treasure hidden in the field. Can we be that dedicated, that committed to the things of God, to the rule and reign of Jesus Christ that we put that first above absolutely everything?

That’s what we should be doing. And if we are not doing it, that tells us that we haven’t yet appreciated what a valuable treasure this is. So let us dig into this scripture and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal that to us.

Oh God. Your kingdom is beyond description, so valuable to us. Please help our hearts and our minds to grasp that so that we pursue, so that we seek first your kingdom., God. You are the treasure beyond price. Amen.
