We have two main sources of wisdom from God. One is the written word, and the other is the working of the Holy Spirit inside us, who guides our understanding, particularly as we interact with the Word of God.
So this is where we go first. We have lots of wise people to whom we can turn, especially Christians who are a little bit further in their journey than us, or Christians who have experience that we don’t yet have. But the writer of Proverbs would have us go first to God.
And that makes sense, doesn’t it? Because God knows absolutely everything. And certainly the Creator of this universe, someone who’s wise enough to do that, is going to know far more than us about anything.
