Some people make it seem like Christianity is no fun at all. And I think if that’s the way it looks, they might be doing it wrong. Look at Psalm 16, verse 11. You make known to me the path of life. In your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

The Psalmist acknowledges that God brings the most abundant joy that we can ever experience in life in his presence. Complete joy. That is joy, with no lack of joy at all. At his right hand when we’re next to God there’s pleasure, eternal pleasure forever.

And so if we serve and worship a God like that, do you think that all of that joy and pleasure is deferred until heaven? Of course not. We can take great joy and pleasure in worshiping God today. He has made creation for us to enjoy as well as to give him glory.

Who do you think it was who had the idea of honey and sugar? Who was it who made flowers so pleasant to look at and to smell? Who was it who gave us the capacity for joy and five senses with which to experience pleasure? It was God Almighty and he did that for us. He in himself experiences joy and pleasure, and we are made in his image.

My friends, Christianity is a belief system that encompasses joy and pleasure. And if in your walk of faith it doesn’t seem like that to you, then I urge you, press deeper into God. You will know joy.

Lord God, I thank you so much that you allow us to have joy. You want us to have joy. I thank you that you have given us things and relationships for us to experience and in which we can gain pleasure. You are in fact the maker of joy and pleasure, Lord. May we find ever more joy as our relationship with you deepens. Amen.
