God has ordained that this world is so set up and that we are so made that work is good for us. But now in a fallen world that’s subject to decay and entropy, things break down and we need to repair them. And this involves work.
One of the reasons why I love Ecclesiastes is it deals head on with the problem of life. And so as we face our responsibilities, which include work, let us understand that this is a good thing for us to do, that it is glorifying to God for us to work in so many different roles. There is a place for us in this world, and often that place involves work.
God, please help us to discharge our duties with diligence, so that we are honouring you, our Creator, who did the work of creation to give us somewhere to live. Now, due to our sin, the world is subject to decay and disrepair. But you have charged us with the responsibility of the upkeep of this planet and the things that we build on it. Please help us to continue to be faithful to you and to our duty to you as custodians of this world. Amen.
