If God is all powerful, can he make a rock that’s too heavy for him to lift? Let’s look at Jeremiah, chapter 32, verse 27. "Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?"

God is saying, yes, he is all powerful. And the thing that I started with, the rock that’s too heavy for God to lift, that’s just a logical fallacy. You can ignore that. It’s quite easy to dispense with that. So setting aside things that are logically impossible, God can do anything that he chooses.

And this is our God, he says. He is the Lord. He is God who’s speaking. And he’s God of all flesh. So he’s everyone’s God, whether they acknowledge him or not. He is God for all. And ultimately, everybody will bow the knee to this God, our God, Yahweh.

Is anything too hard for me? No. Nothing’s too hard for him. This is the God who works in all circumstances to bring about our good and his glory. It is not too hard for him to liberate us from any difficult or unpleasant circumstances.

He doesn’t always do that when and how we want. But he being a wise God knows when’s the best and perfect time to change circumstances for us. And rest assured that if God has decided to make a change in your circumstances, that will happen. He will do it. He can do it. Nothing is too hard for him.

But God isn’t a cosmic slot machine, and he’s certainly not our servant. So we’re not saying, because of this verse, God, you can do all these things for me now. No, we are recognising in worship that He is this God, this all powerful being, who has chosen to have a relationship with us, who loves us.

We don’t need to ask anything of Him. He’s already given us everything that we need. But we say, with Jeremiah, who has just heard this from God, yes, you are the Lord, you are Yahweh, you are the God of all flesh, and nothing is too hard for you.
