Yesterday, we meditated on Ecclesiastes chapter 3, verse 1: for everything is a season and a time for everything under heaven. Today, we’re looking at verse 2 of chapter 3. We’re not going to go through the entirety of all the things for which there is a time, but I just wanted to look and meditate on verse 2.
It’s Ecclesiastes chapter 3, verse 2. A time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.
God has put order in creation. Now, at the time the writer of Ecclesiastes was writing, death was included, and that is why there is a time to die. Ultimately, death will be completely conquered. There’ll be no more death for us.
But right now, the natural order of our lives is that there will be a time when we are born and a time when we die. And this is all in accordance with God’s will. He allows this to happen. He allows us to die so that those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ are willing to go God’s way will then be free utterly from the curse of sin and death and able to live eternally with him.
And there’s a time to plant, there’s a time when it’s appropriate for you to sow into whatever project you have. Whatever God has given you to do, sow into that and not necessarily immediately see growth. But there will come a time when it’s harvest time and we can see the benefit and the fruit of where we have sown.
The wisdom of Ecclesiastes is very practical literally we plant things, we watch them grow, and then we can harvest, but also in our lives, it’s practical. It can be frustrating waiting for things to happen. But be assured that God never stops working and things that we can’t see, are happening in accordance with his mighty purpose.
Thank you, Lord God, that even though to our eyes, it looks like we’re living in a world of chaos, there is order in your plans and purposes and we can trust and rely on you always. Amen.
