We are not just forgiven our sins and then left as some kind of slave. No, we’re brought into relationship with God as his children. Our obedience towards him then is the obedience of children, not the obedience of slaves or employees or subordinates.
And he has adopted us because he loves us. And that’s the kind of relationship he wants with us.
Where does that leave us, then, with the world? It leaves us in a state of friction.
The world doesn’t know us, doesn’t accept us, doesn’t get where we’re coming from because the world doesn’t get where God is coming from. The world does not know God, doesn’t know God like we know Him, doesn’t know the truth of the Messiah who died for us, doesn’t know the truth of sin and the damage, the havoc it wreaks on creation and our lives.
