A lot of people would like to avoid death, whether that be through extending our lives medically, cryogenically freezing our heads, or transferring our consciousness into a robot. The truth is, we can’t avoid death, but we can beat it, and Jesus tells us how in today’s meditation from John 11 verse 16. "And everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
Jesus asks us whether we are going to take on trust what he’s telling us. He is the source of life. Everything was made through him, including all creation and us. So then if we go to him, the source of life, if we live and believe in him, then the true final death, the utter destruction of our souls, will not happen to us.
We still have to go through this process of decay and actual mortal death in this fallen world, because the last enemy to be destroyed is death. That comes at the end. That’s from 1 Corinthians 15, by the way, although you may have read it in Harry Potter.
The last enemy to be destroyed is death, and God will conquer. And provided we’re living and believing in Jesus, then that final death, the death of our souls, will never happen. This is truly the only way that we can cheat death.
But thank you God, thank you Jesus, that you have made a way for us to overcome with you that final enemy. Amen.
