Jesus wants us to follow his example in bringing peace. That’s one of the messages from today’s meditation verse. Let’s look at it together. 2 Corinthians, chapter 5, verse 18. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
The "all this" that Paul’s talking about there is the fact that we are new creations and that God has been reconciled to us through the ministry of Jesus Christ. What that means for us in practice is that we no longer have to prove ourselves to God. He accepts us, once and for all, once we’ve repented of our sins and accepted Jesus Christ as our Saviour.
But the reconciliation doesn’t end there. Now, as his children, who have received the Holy Spirit and are being regenerated, we also have this ministry of reconciliation.
Christians should be on the forefront of all peace endeavours. We should be leading the way in this. We should be demonstrating by our behaviour towards each other, by our behaviour towards those in our communities, our families, and in our society, that we are those who will bring reconciliation, true reconciliation. Not a temporary peace or a ceasefire, but a coming together as one to serve and follow our Lord and God.
That is part of our mission here on this earth. And the challenge to us, the question we have to ask ourselves, I think, as we meditate on this verse is How am I discharging that ministry of reconciliation?
Lord God, please help us as we think on this, as we ponder on it, as we seek your direction. God, we do wish to be peacemakers, because that’s what you’ve called us to. Please help us to do that within our sphere of influence that you have given to us. For your glory, God, and for the sake of the Gospel. Amen.
