Well, this is a stonking prophecy from the Prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 65 verse 17. "For behold, I create a new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind."
This is way, way, way before the Apostle John had his Revelation that we see right at the end of our Bibles. Isaiah has already been shown by God, that there’s going to be a restored, a renewed heaven and earth and that everything that comes before, everything that’s already happened is going to disappear out of our minds.
Really, he’s talking about all the evil that’s transpired. He’s talking about all the suffering. This is God saying to us all of that stuff that right now seems so painful and difficult to you, you won’t even remember it. And the reason is not that we’ve suddenly been struck with amnesia, but because God has brought us into this bounty, into this wonderful place where we have a restored relationship, a restored creation, and we can live in perfect harmony with him.
It’s okay, as you meditate on this verse, to imagine what that might be like, to ask God, to ask the Holy Spirit to show you, to reveal to you a little something of what the new heavens and the new earth will be like, and what our lives might be like living there, in glory.
Father God, I ask that you show us that you give us a vision of all this splendour that you are revealing. And please Lord continue to call us in to your kingdom to be with you shining your light right now in anticipation of living in your glorious light in the age to come. Amen.
